We arrived in Atlanta friday night and both Willow and I were happy to be at our destination. Me because I knew we would be staying in one place for a few days and her because she was out of the car finally. Willow is adapting fairly well to traveling. Mornings are hard and she paces around the car a lot. But after we take a lunch break (meaning we sit on a blanket under a tree at some rest stop – Willow on leash) she is ready to sleep and settles down for the afternoon of driving. Lucky for her she missed out on the CRAZY traffic in Atlanta. Wow. I had forgotten how bad it could be around here.
Jason (my nephew) and I have been enjoying hanging out and talking. For entertainment we went to a local game of Texas Hold ‘em Poker. (http://georgiapokernights.com/gpn/) Neither Jason or I had played before but knew the general rules. And we came in and kicked some butt. He finished sixth and I finished 4th. It was a lot of fun till we advanced to the finalist table where the players got a lot more serious. It was a great time though.
I’ve been enjoying all the restaurants that used to frequent when I lived here 8 years ago. Chick-fil-A, O’Charlies, and the ever popular Waffle House! Other local activities included driving by the house that was the original Tara from Gone with the Wind. We would have done the tour but they didn’t run on Sunday. I will post a picture soon.
Speaking of pictures, I have posted the ones I took while in Washington DC and on the road from there to Atlanta. They can be viewed at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/29196622@N05/
The time in Atlanta has been great visiting friends and family. And Willow has enjoyed not getting up every morning and getting back into the car. She’s in for a surprise when the road trip begins again!
