The Road Trip Begins!

August 1, 2008

Willow and I have been on the road two days now. She is adapting well. Meows a lot when we first start out but calms down quickly. I let her out to roam the car and she behaves nicely until it is time for a break. And she lets me know when she has had enough! Pacing around and meowing till I find us a rest stop where we can sit on the grass for a bit.

Washington DC was nice (the Motel 6 less nice but you get what you pay for I suppose). I was fortunate to meet a nice family from Illinois in the lobby and they were on their way to sight see along the Mall (which is where I wanted to go) and they let me tag along. Saving me a great deal of time trying to figure out where the Metro station was. Once we got to the Mall though we went our separate ways. I was speed seeing. I literally ran from the WWII Memorial to the Lincoln Memorial. I didn’t stay long because I was worried about leaving Willow alone in the hotel the first night out. She of course was fine. I was tired though and crashed after mindlessly watching tv to relax (Holy 80’s flashback: Crocodile Dundee was on! And it is still funny!)

Day two began fairly early. Repacked the car. I’ve got to reorganize…I’m carrying way too many things into the hotel room! Willow insists on having ALL her stuff though…

We left DC and headed into Virginia then into North Carolina. I am soooo in the south now! I stopped at the visitors center just inside of NC and the ladies working there (all with fabulous southern accents) helped me not only find a hotel that allows pets, but also called ahead so I could book a room for the night! They were incredibly nice.

I got back on the road and from there was only about an hour and a half from my destination for the night: The luxurious Econo Lodge. About a mile down the road though I enter a construction zone and the traffic is at a complete standstill. While sitting there a HUGE rain storm rolls in. We sat for 40 minutes! Turns out a bunch of trees had been knocked into the road by the storm. So we made it to the hotel a little later than expected

Now Willow and I are chillin’ for the night in front of the tv enjoying more bad movies (tonight is Road House with Patrick Swayze… only thing better would be Dirty Dancing). Domino’s delivered a pizza that I ate ravenously while Willow enjoyed a can of Seafood Feast. Yum. That is all for now. I am going to try and find a sight to host my pictures (I’ve taken lots) but for now everyone will have to make do with just the couple wordpress will let me post.

Thank you to everyone who has sent text messages and good thoughts. It is greatly appreciated.
More adventures to come!
